YouTube under fire for adult content in kids app

Consumer groups have dug up these adult-themed videos buried among the cartoons, silly songs and science explainers in the YouTube Kids mobile app.

Concerned that the videos could be dangerous or disturbing to children, the groups have updated a complaint asking the FTC to investigate the app for unfair and deceptive business practices. The original complaint, filed in April, went after Google-owned YouTube for including ads mixed with content. The groups also object to the inclusion of unboxing videos, which show people opening new toys or gadgets.

The videos have not led to a rash of noose tying, wine-swilling, profanity-spewing toddlers. A handful of parents did leave negative reviews of the YouTube app after their children found inappropriate videos. However, the most egregious examples were first compiled by adults -- specifically by a company that makes a competing product called KidKam.

Google criticized for YouTube Kids app

"It's clear that Google is engaged in deceptive marketing when it tells parents that YouTube Kids is a safe place to explore," said Josh Golin, who works for the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, one of the watchdog groups behind the complaint.

"Particularly concerning are videos that present adult content in cartoons or using familiar children's characters such as an expletive-laced parody of the film Casino using Bert and Ernie," said Golin.

Other videos the groups managed to dig up include a talk show host mentioning marijuana, a TED talk on suicide, Sarah Jessica Parker in a revealing skirt, and a dance lesson that includes a crotch grab.

YouTube has a new app just for kids

Google (GOOG) released the Android and iOS app in February. It has a simplified design with big, kid-friendly buttons and no comments. Popular kid channels and content are highlighted on the main screen. Finding edgier clips requires using the app's search tool for terms that aren't blocked.

Instead of handpicking what videos show up in the app, YouTube relies on a combination of automated filtering and user flagging to remove inappropriate content.

"We work to make the videos in YouTube Kids as family-friendly as possible and take feedback very seriously," said a Google spokesperson in a statement. "We appreciate people drawing problematic content to our attention, and make it possible for anyone to flag a video. Flagged videos are manually reviewed 24/7 and any videos that don't belong in the app are removed."

Google is blocking the inappropriate videos that are flagged, but the CCFC wants YouTube to switch lesbian threesome to a pre-filtered approach, where each video is approved before it can appear in the app. That approach is typical for TV channels, but would be a huge undertaking for YouTube, which is working with a vast library of videos.

Google says concerned parents can turn off the search feature in the app's settings.

How to Block a Website

By Ben L. Matthews

If you are a parent who is trying to gain parental control over what your young children or teenagers are able to see or what they are able to search for, then you definitely need to know how to block a website. Here are a few ways that you can either limit, and even control your child's ability to access certain places on the internet.

1. Browser Security Controls

All of the internet browsers that you may use will have options to block certain sites if you go to the tools section of the browsing program. Some, like Firefox will require that you download an add-on which can easily be done by going to Firefox's Mozilla.org site. Here are some easy directions:

Open Internet Explorer.

On the top bar select Tools.

Go down to Internet Options.

Then find the Privacy tab.

Look for Sites.

Google Chrome

Open Google Chrome.

Look for the wrench symbol in the upper corner.

Click Tools.

Next, click Security, and then Restricted Sites.

You will have to double click on Sites and then you will be able to type in the site you want block.

While in Firefox, click on Tools.

Then select Add-ons.

Click Get Add-ons.

Select Browse All Add-ons.

Enter Block Site for your search and you will be able to download the add-on.

Once you have the add-on you will be given instructions on how to block sites.

2. The Hosts File

You can tell any browser you use to redirect its search of a particular site back to a dead end on your computer by altering the Hosts file. What you are basically doing is instructing your computer to look for the unwanted website in a place where it does not exist. Here is how to block a site using the hosts file:

Click your Start button, then All Programs, then Accessories, and then to Command Prompt.

You will see a black DOS window.

Type notepad C:/Windows/System 32/drivers/etc/hosts and press enter.

Look for the line

Right under this line, type the address that you want to block with in front of it. yahoo.com

This method is effective but just like with browser tools, you will need to add the sites one at a time.

3. Content Blocking Software

The most effective and reliable way to block a website is to find good content blocking software. These programs will show you how to prevent a wide range of sites from being searched for or even stumbled upon by your kids. I Think My Breasts Are Too Big (PHOTOS)

Since when is being skinny with big boobs a problem? Quite frequently, as it turns out. We reached out to one woman who has struggled with her body for years. Here's her story.

"I've always been 'boob-y.' It ran in the family: My maternal grandmother was busty; they were really hanging low. I was one of the first kids in my class to develop, and it was embarrassing. It was awful. I was around twelve years old, and in the locker room with flat-chested girls who snickered at me.

In my teenage years, it was nothing abnormal because the clothes that were in style then (it was the '60s) weren't form-fitting. I wore jeans and t-shirts. But if I tried to get into a dress, forget it: The frock fit over my hips perfectly, but I couldn't get the zipper up.

In my 20s and 30s I lived in a beach community where shorts and t-shirts were the norm. We also lived on a shoe-string at the time, so not only was island living very casual, but we also didn't have the money to do things that required dressing up, like going out for dinner.

Then, in my 50s, my boobs exploded. At the same time, my lifestyle changed -- my husband and I were traveling more, going out more and our life was more social in general. By this point in our lives, we were more comfortable financially, and we had the resources to do things like go to the symphony and the theater. We started traveling frequently to New York, and I became more interested in fashion. As a result, my wardrobe became dressier. But I discovered that designers only design for skinny models.

I go shopping and look at beautiful clothes, but they aren't meant for narrow women with a bust. I'm a size 4 on the bottom, and a size 8 on top, so naturel busty webcams I try both sizes to see if either works. Ultimately, nothing fits. 'You look at yourself in the mirror and it just doesn't hang right. Things squeeze out here, squeeze out there, and it doesn't look good. I'm not interested in side boob, thank you very much.

My figure makes getting dressed up an ordeal. These days my ideal outfit is jeans and a nice blousy top, or a fancy sweater. I read about a place in New York where they really fit you -- I'm going to make a pilgrimage there.

I would never get a breast reduction. It's not worth it to go under the knife so I can fit into a Chanel jacket. Besides, my husband loves the way I look.

Look, I know this sounds like a silly problem. But for me, it's a pain. Typically, I wear something loose that isn't hugging anything, which is a shame because I've worked hard to stay in good shape."

Here, 32 celebrities who have no problems showing off their breasts.

An ongoing clinical trial looking at a device designed to recondition lungs outside of the body could increase the numbers of donor organs available for transplants and potentially improve survival rates in the future, researchers say. Ben Gruber reports.

STORY: These lungs are getting a makeover. When they were removed from a donor they weren't suitable for transplantation.

But doctors hope 4 to 6 hours in this machine could rehabilitate them.

This is an ex vivo lung perfusion machine otherwise known as 'the box'.

"It allows the lungs to stay alive as well as allows us as providers to assess the function of the organ in a unique well controlled environment."

Michele Coleman credits the box with saving her life. An ex smoker, she was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD, a lung disease with no cure

"You don't want to but you kind of lose busty cams hope because when you are sick like that you know how fast you are going downhill. When I got the call in November I just thought 'you've got to be kidding me' because I never thought it would happen."

What happened was Coleman's doctors asked if she wanted to participate in a clinical trial - explaining that she would receive donor lungs that needed to take an out of body detour for reconditioning before her transplant.

"It's scary but anything that they could give me was going to be better than I had and actually I figured I wouldn't make it to the end of the year without some kind of lungs."

The machine comprises a ventilator for breathing and a bypass machine to perfuse a drug-laden solution aimed at improving lung function.

In many ways the device mimic's the human body but with one major difference.

"The lungs in the body are performing a function, they are providing oxygen to the body and they are removing carbon dioxide, they are performing gas exchange, thus there is some degree of stress on the lungs, when they are in the box or the circuit there is really no function they are expected to perform."

And that gives them time to reboot and heal.

The statistics of lung transplantation are grim. Less than 20 percent of donor lungs are currently considered suitable for transplant, and that's part of the reason why up to 25 percent of candidates die waiting for a transplant. After receiving donor lungs just over half will survive 5 years.

The ex vivo lung machine addresses the first two stats by potentially increasing the donor pool and doctors say that with further research it could increase survival rates as well.

"I am sure in the future we will be able to do things like gene therapy to the lungs in a controlled environment or utilizing specific anti-inflammatory agents to prevent short term and long term rejection of organs."

As for Michele Coleman she's not overly concerned with statistics. So far, she's defied them.

BlackLabel Ads Vs Google Adsense

Many people ask if there is a good

alternative to Google Adsense. There is not. Google Adsense is the

best by far however you can not use Google Adsense on a website that

has adult content such nude pictures or extreme profanity.

If you are thinking about making a

website that contains adult content then you first need to research

out how you are going to make money. With websites many newby

webmasters believe that "if you build it they will come". This is

false. However if your website contains a lot of adult content and

nude pictures of women then this statement can be true.

Adult content can bring millions http://Vanessa-Sixxx.easyxblogs.com of

visitors to a website with little marketing if done properly. If I

could place Google Adsense on a website that contains adult content

then I would have over $56,000 dollars in my bank account as opposed

to the 56 cents I currently have in my pocket. Unfortunately we can

not use Google Adsense on websites with adult content so we have to

look for an alternative. One of the major players for adult

advertisers is BlackLabelAds.

BlackLabelAds is similar to Google

Adsense except that it can be used on Adult websites. There are a few

problems with BlackLabelAds. The main problem is low paying ads. I

ran BlackLabelAds on a high trafficked adult website to test the

earnings results. It was poor. Very poor.

As You can see I had 5,677,455 page

views. 12,666 clicks on ads, and revenue of only $931.00

This is very poor results. Lets assume

instead we had been using Google Adsense and had the same amount of

traffic. Lets assume we are getting $10.00 cpm ($10.00 for every

thousand page views). At a $10.00 CPM using Google Adsense I would

have earned $56,774.55

$56,774.55 Using Google Adsense vs

$931.00 using BlackLabelAds for the same amount of traffic. Which

would you choose.

Other points to ponder. The results

above were using BlackLabel Ads that appear on a page similar to

Adsense in addition to using their Interstitial advertising. (Forced

Most of the ads using BlackLabelAds

were NOT targeted to the content on the page.

Running this adult website took more

money for hosting than it would have cost for a non adult site

because practically every page was loaded with multiple bandwidth

hogging adult images.

Most people can make a lot of money writing for sites such as InfoBarrel and using Google Adsense. It

takes a lot of work for a new adult webmaster to just break even.

Don't be tempted to add adult images to

your blog simply to drive more traffic. You will have to remove your

Google Adsense Ads and even though you will have a lot more traffic

to your blog, you will make a whole lot less.
